This ministry was started in 2012 with three feeding sites that provided 2,262 meals. Each succeeding year it has grown tremendously. Each weekday during the summer school recess, the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides a healthy meal to any child 18 and under in both Columbia and Wrightsville, a large majority of whom live below the poverty line. All meals are prepared in our certified kitchen at Columbia Presbyterian Church.
The Columbia Shelter for the homeless is located at 291 South 4th Street Columbia, PA and is open seven days a week from 5:00 pm until 7:00 am, year-round. Sleeping facilities, an evening meal, and a light breakfast are provided for the guests. Showers and laundry capabilities are also available to guests.
Guests of the Shelter are assisted through our Restart Day Center to find the connections they need to transition from homelessness to independence.
– The Shelter is open to adults 18 and over
– All guests are subject to a background check; no violent or sexual offenders will be admitted
– Guests are required to set and maintain goals, sign a social contract and meet with staff weekly
– No visibly intoxicated guests are admitted
– Premises under 24-hour video surveillance
A free, complete meal, is served at Columbia Presbyterian Church each weekday from 11 am – 12 pm through our HAS Soup Kitchen.
Our Food Ministry also supplies the meals served at the 4th Street Cafe on the first and last Sunday of each month as well as our Shelter and Day Center.
